Apple Day & Big Draw

Wheelbirks Parlour held its annual Apple Day on Saturday 29th September, with an apple themed menu and new ice cream flavours. The emphasis this year was on art and drawing, with the Parlour joining in with the Big Draw, a celebration of drawing.
Lucinda Richardson, who runs the Parlour, said “We wanted everyone to get involved, and it’s not just for the children! We had a huge range of things to take part in. This year, we were really delighted to have both amateur and professional artists joining us. And we were very excited to have Sue Moffitt joining us, who is renowned for her paintings of cows, inspired by her farming background.
Lucinda said “Sue Moffitt’s work has helped create the unique atmosphere in the Parlour, which features her colourful paintings of our Jersey cows. My favourite painting of Sue’s is the one of two Jersey calves, Kate and Lara, who are named after my daughters, it’s the pink one if you’re visiting!”

The Big Draw is a campaign which has grown into a month-long festival running throughout October, encouraging people to get more involved in creative activities. It sees drawing as a basic human skill, useful in all walks of life. Lisa Wildsmith, an art teacher, ran different art activities, from drawing in our apple orchard, drawing one of our resident ponies and creating large scale paintings of the farm’s Jersey cows.

We had a fantastic day, thank you so much to everyone who joined us! We are in the process of photographing some of the pieces that were left behind, so keep your eyes peeled for some more photos later!
