Harvest Day 27th September 2014

On 27th September 2014 we held our first ever Harvest Day! A day to celebrate the great and good of countryside produce at Wheelbirks.

Visitors enjoyed tractor & trailer rides, a chance to sit in our combine harvester and adults and children alike tried their hand at archery.
Homemade preserves were on sale made from Wheelbirks produce alongside apples from our orchard.
We served a wholesome menu:
Cheese & Chive scones and Date & Spice scones.
Carrot, Apple & Butternut Squash soup.
Jersey beef Moussaka served with Garlic Bread.
Sweet Potato & Caramel Cheesecake.
Courgette & Lime Muffins.
Garden Pea Ice Cream and Beetroot Sorbet.

Visitor Sandra sent us these lovely comments after the event:
"Just wanted to say how much we enjoyed our visit today. It was our granddaughters 4th birthday today and we thought we would go to Wheelbirks for lunch, not knowing it was your Harvest Day. We saw the calves and watched the milking, which my grandaughter was fascinated by, the guy who was milking them was great. Although we have visited many times, today was even more enjoyable. Great to see such great and enthusiastic food production, and education. Thanks again, and thanks for the milk, my family thought that was great, so careful taking it home, a present from the cows."

Our herd manager Chris gave a brilliant demonstration of our cows being milked and we were giving out samples of our delicious unpasteurised milk!

We also held an evening talk by local advanced nutritional advisor Lee Gardener.  He focused on the benefits of including unpastuerised milk in our diet. The evening was a great sucess and also generated interest from The Journal who ran an article about our milk prior to the evening! If you are interested in reading it, please click here.
